About This Class

Ready to dive into the art of embellished wool appliqué? This beginner‑friendly class is the perfect place to start. For the first time, Lisa will be teaching two patterns simultaneously — Lily’s Embrace and Flutter — so you can choose the project that inspires you most.

This course is structured as three full‑day sessions, spaced two weeks apart. The pacing gives you time to practice between classes and return ready for the next step, helping you build skills with confidence and increasing your chances of finishing your quilt.

What You’ll Learn

• Class One: Sewing the background, preparing and cutting pattern pieces, wool appliqué, silk velvet appliqué, cotton appliqué, and creating cotton/silk circles using Karen Kay Buckley’s Perfect Big Circles.
• Class Two: Beginning embellishments, including Backstitch, Chain Stitch, Straight Stitch, Running Stitch, Couching, and Palestrina Stitch. We’ll also cover sewing the border.
• Class Three: Advanced embellishments such as Bullion Knots, Double Cast‑on Bullion Knots, Eyelet Wheel, and Woven Picot, plus stitching combinations. We’ll finish with basting, quilting, and binding techniques.

By the end of this course, you’ll not only complete your chosen project but also gain the confidence to tackle most wool‑embellished quilts on your own.

Kits & Pattern Options

• DIY Option: Purchase the pattern ($20) and bring your own wool and threads. Supply list coming soon.
• Lily’s Embrace Kit — $180: Includes the pattern and all materials needed to complete the quilt (except appliqué thread and batting).

• Flutter Kit — $140: Includes the pattern and all materials needed to complete the quilt (except appliqué thread and batting).

Enrollment Notes

This class requires a minimum of 6 students. If we don’t reach our minimum one week prior to the first session, the class may be cancelled.

Cancellation Policy: To receive a refund or credit, cancellations must occur at least 7 days before the class date.

Lisa Mortell
In 2010, Lisa Mortell discovered her passion for quilting through a Kaffe Fassett book, and by the time she completed her first quilt, she was completely hooked. Over the past fourteen years, her quilting journey has evolved significantly, with a deepening love for wool appliqué and embroidery taking center stage.

Lisa began teaching quilting six years ago, sharing her expertise in wool appliqué, embroidery, and needle‑turn appliqué. Her recent works draw inspiration from the natural beauty of her Pacific Northwest roots. You can follow her creative adventures on Instagram and Facebook at @lisamortellquilter.
