Beginning Wool Appliqué with Lisa Mortell
Feb 12 & 26, Mar 12
10:30am - 4:30pm
Ready to dive into the art of embellished wool appliqué? This beginner‑friendly class is the perfect place to start. For the first time, Lisa will be teaching two patterns simultaneously — Lily’s Embrace and Flutter — so you can choose the project that inspires you most.
The class is designed as three full‑day sessions, spaced two weeks apart. This schedule gives you time to practice between classes and return ready for the next step, leading to stronger skills and a higher chance of finishing your quilt.
What You’ll Learn
-
Class One: Sewing the background, preparing and cutting pattern pieces, wool appliqué, silk velvet appliqué, cotton appliqué, and creating cotton/silk circles with Karen Kay Buckley’s Perfect Big Circles.
-
Class Two: Beginning embellishments on your quilt top, plus embroidery stitches including Backstitch, Chain Stitch, Straight Stitch, Running Stitch, Couching, and Palestrina Stitch. We’ll also cover sewing the border.
-
Class Three: Advanced embellishments such as Bullion Knots, Double Cast‑on Bullion Knots, Eyelet Wheel, and Woven Picot, along with stitching combinations. We’ll finish with basting, quilting, and binding techniques.
By the end of this course, you’ll not only complete your chosen project but also gain the confidence to tackle most wool‑embellished quilts on your own.
